Horrible printing error. In my copy of the book, the statue is only 8.625 cm tall. Sure the picture in the back is smaller too (3.125 cm) but it throw off the math.
FYI, my degree is in printing and publishing so this bad print really gets my goat...

The height of an object in a photograph depends on the distance the object is from the camera and how the camera is focused. Assuming the "scale" in one photograph can be applied to another photo makes no sense.

I got the answer, but I'm struggling with the logic of the problem. The statue value I calculate is larger than the crate height. I suppose my question is how are the two related? The statue clearly doesn't fit in the crate, but I could be missing something.
